Air Quality Inspections

The indoor environment in any building is a result of interaction between the site, climate, building system, construction techniques, contaminant sources and building occupants. Each of these components is directly affected by the other and when one adversely affects the other, the indoor air quality could be altered negatively.

Nova Environmental, Inc. has personnel specially trained to investigate potential indoor air quality problems. Our indoor air quality team uses a systematic problem-solving approach employing state-of-the-art equipment to locate and assess potential sources of indoor air quality problems and/or complaints.

Nova Environmental, Inc. specialists will study each of four factors (HVAC system, potential sources, pathways and occupants) affecting indoor air quality. Occupant activity, temperature and relative humidity are sampled/analyzed while specific contaminant sampling may also need to be conducted (i.e. insecticides, volatile organic compounds or bioaerosols). Finally, Nova Environmental, Inc. Indoor Air Quality Specialists will provide a thorough report identifying all sampling and analytical results, including a determination of probable air quality problems and remediation recommendations. Therefore, it is Nova Environmental, Inc.'s goal to determine and identify potential indoor air problems, advise resolutions and provide preventive measures to alleviate future concerns.

Nova Environmental, Inc.'s Indoor Air Quality Staff received specialized training through a course sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Nova Environmental, Inc. follows "Building Air Quality" guidelines as provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and NIOSH.

Nova Environmental Inc. utilizes the following systematic procedures during mold investigations.

  • Visual inspections for obvious moisture damage of building materials or fungal contamination.
  • Bulk sampling of obvious fungal contamination for fungal species identification.
  • Air sampling for both viable and non-viable airborne concentrations in areas of concerns as well as in indoor and outdoor locations necessary for comparative analysis.
  • Recommendations for cleaning and/or mold remediation based upon above procedures.

In addition to providing consultation services on potential IAQ problems, Nova Environmental Inc. can provide standard operating procedures and policies for identifying, responding and resolution techniques to facilities. This IAQ Management Plan incorporates the site specific adaptation for the best allocation of resources for an individual entity. This versatility allows for the generation of a program that will best suit the client.
